Do you look for the Master in the storm?

Why are we so easily immobilized in fearful situations and why do we look at the situation around us, instead of looking for the Master who could help us?  If we as followers of Jesus, know that He is the Good Shepherd and He knows all about us, as His sheep; it is He, we should be looking for in the storm. That means that our causal and our troubling situations are known to Him. It means that He is nearby because that is what good shepherds are known for. Yet, here is the incredible thing, because this Jesus, who is our Shepherd and Lord, is also the Lord over all the earth. Our Lord can do more than just watch over and protect us … it means that He can do mighty things in the midst of the troubles and dangers around us.

When Jesus lived among His disciples, they saw the many miraculous things that Jesus did. Miraculous moments of people healed of diseases and delivered from demonic oppression, an abundance of food provided for thousands of people, and a Savior who knew all things. Still, when they found themselves in a serious storm after these amazing things that accompanied their Master, … they did not call out to Him, they did not see Him nearby and they were very scared and troubled. Even when they saw Him … they perceived that He was a ghost, not the Master of the storm they so desperately needed. Still, He saw their plight and came to them and calmed their storm in a marvelous way.

To know, Jesus as the Good Shepherd who cares for us; is a beautiful thing. To realize and remember that Jesus sees us in our troubled place is beyond encouraging; it should be life-changing. To trust in the truth and the fact, that He will come to us; is remarkable. To know Jesus, is the Master of all things and He will come to our aid with tremendous power even when we are not looking for Him; is truly amazing.

“They all say him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’ Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed” (Mark 6:50-51 NIV).
