This New Day

“To give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in the darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet in the way of peace” (English Standard Bible, Luke 1:76-79).

So, here it is again. A new day, the second day of the New Year. Already this new day is beginning again like the countless new days of the many years that have added up to the lifetime we are living out, day by day. The coffee is giving the morning the normal aroma of the morning routine and the thoughts in our awaking brains are beginning to form a plan of some kind.

For some this day will be reoccurring normal day in being ordinary and routine with not much on the agenda. For others, whether hassled or overwhelmed by multitudes of various personal hardships, health issues or problematic concerns in relationships or work related roles; this day may look like a day to fear, or dread in various ways. Some people may spend their day watching the news and their day will simply fill up with a focus on things that they cannot control. Still others, might again begin their day, dreading the daily battle in fighting addictions and desperately hope for enough perseverance to get through this new day.

Yet, here in the breaking of the dawn is the start of a uniquely, defined and distinctive new day. It is a new day, in spite of its being relatively the same in a numeric sense of hours, it will always hold great potential to become something different.

Whether this day is the second day of the New Year or just a day in a month that falls in the numbered year … each new day is new. Every sunrise has the potential to become a new day of significance. Faith is not just a filter through which the colored events of the day are processed but it is a way to begin the day and change each new day. Each new day is a day to connect to Christ and appeal for His grace to cover and direct this new day. This new day beckons us with possibility of change, encouragement, peace and even to become miraculous when the day is given in trusting faith to the Savior who both saves and delivers in every day.

This new day has broken with the potential to become a day of significance. Let the Light of the Savior break into your ordinary day and be thankful for His coming.
