“O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy …” (Psalm 107:1-2 KJV).
In the love God freely gives to us, as His children, we see many attributes of His essence. He does not wait for a feeling in order to love us. His love is set upon us and it is steadfast. His love is great and beyond compare because He loves us while we are yet sinners (Romans 5:8), alienated and separated from His holiness and righteousness. God is love … and love is who He is (1 John 4:16). Our redemption comes by His love through the grace of Jesus Christ, fully and completely secure into a reconciled relationship with Himself.
He does not do good things for specific reasons. He is good. His goodness is forever faithful, true, and everlasting. Out of God’s great mercy abundantly flow, love and grace and His faithfulness and goodness iw without end extending to all generations. He is good … His love doesn’t change when people neglect, forget, struggle, rebel, and even walk away from Him. He is close by and His love seeks redemption, restoration, and renewed relationship through a repentant and contrite heart. Never changing, not diminishing, completely loyal as He redeems, saves, and sustains us, now and from everlasting until everlasting. This is our Father in Heaven. Grasping the true extent of our relationship with our God is overpowering and staggering if we really try to comprehend it, yet so simple in its reality … God is good.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11 ESV)
